Petition Message
We, the undersigned, are OPPOSED to the killing of the Canada Geese at Lake of the Pines (LOP), Auburn, CA. Native Canada Geese belong to all citizens not just those that reside at Lake of the Pines.
Many advocates believe that public safety isn’t the real reason for killing the geese — some people simply don’t want to share their boat docks, parks and beaches with the animals or their droppings. To that end, we believe a few directors on the LOP Board created a bogus, fear-based campaign to promote a flawed “plan” to kill and maim the geese under the disguise of “possible” health issues – nothing could be further from the truth. The issues at Lake Wildwood stemmed from raw sewage being released into the Lake which in turn, we believe infected the geese.
“When we humans create an anomaly habitat” such as LOP, we become responsible for being good stewards of the unintended consequences that result.
We call on the LOP Board of Directors to:
- Stop killing Canada Geese
- Use non-lethal methods to reduce the geese populations,
- Remove the directors from the LOP committees and boards who promoted the contrived assault on the geese without permission from LOP members or citizens as a whole.
Signatures were collected up until February 15, 2021, whereupon we submitted them to the Lake of the Pines Board before their February 17th meeting.
Save the Geese at Lake of the Pines
